Muskmelons produced from Pindaya, Shan State, have gained orders from Kyaukse, Mandalay, and Nay Pyi Taw, including Yangon, and the price is low. Muskmelon is an export item; however, the trade has to rely on the domestic market for now due to massive supply, helping consumers enjoy the fruit at a low price, said farmers and traders in Pindaya Township.

“Now the supply is massive, and the price also falls. But demand is still low because we only consume domestically. Muskmelon has received orders from Kyaukse, Mandalay, Nay Pyi Taw and Yangon. For consumers, it is good because they can buy it cheaply,” said a muskmelon farmer in Pindaya.

In December 2023, muskmelon prices were pretty good, and trade was also acceptable. Price is likely to change in the following months, depending on plantation acres. “Muskmelon price was good in December 2023, and trade was also good. Exports will resume later, so we have to rely on the domestic market now. Price will change over the next month, depending on plantation acres; price will fall if supply is large or rise if supply is low,” he said.
