The fourth Government-to-government rice contract between Bangladesh and Myanmar was signed in December 2024. The first vessel carrying 22,000 metric tonnes of high-quality Myanmar Aemahta rice (five per cent broken) reached Bangladesh port and discharging began, according to the Myanmar Rice Federation.

Bangladesh and Myanmar have been cooperating in the rice sector since 2017. The first contract was 100,000 metric tonnes in 2017, the second 100,000 metric tonnes contract was implemented in April 2021, the third was 200,000 metric tonnes in the 2022-2023 financial year and this is the fourth contract which is 100,000 metric tonnes and to be completed between January and February 2025.

The rice on the MV Golden Star from Yangon Port arrived at the port’s limits at 10:12 pm on Thursday and was moored at Jetty No 9 of the GCB on Friday (17 January) 

morning. Seven Seas Shipping Lines, the shipping agent for the MV Golden Star, confirmed the arrival, according to the Business Standard posted in Bangladesh on Monday.

Myanmar side, the export was carried out by 35 export companies led by the Myanmar Rice Federation. Bangladesh side, the purchase and distribution is done by the Directorate of Food.
