It has been about five days that corn price has been steady in domestic market and it is potential to rise further.

 “At present, corn price has been steady for about five days in domestic market. I assumed that the price will be higher over next months,” said Ko Wai Htet Aung from WHA-Purchasing in southern Shan State’s Namhsan Township.

At present, corn is exported to Thailand, Vietnam, India and Philippines and of them, Thailand is the main destination.

In last year, corn market wasn’t successful, leading to decline the corn plantation as well as low production in this year.

Thailand is the biggest buyer among other overseas buyers- Vietnam, India and Philippines. Production is low compared to last year, weather and price are main factors. In last year, the price wasn’t good so farmers were not eager to grow. Corn price became good late in the year, he said.
