As it is sunflower harvest time in Mandalay Region, sunflower oil price has declined and the price of sunflower oil cake, which is a by-product of the oil extraction, has also slightly decreased, according to the market.
“Sunflowers are just harvested. Previously, we sold crude sunflower oil at K125,000 per barrel containing 10 visses. It is wholesale price and they are resold at K150,000-K160,000 after refining. Now the price has declined by K5000. It has been a month since the price of sunflower oil dropped,” a sunflower farmer, Ko Tin Kyaing from Yamethin Township told the Global News Light of Myanmar (GNLM).
In addition to edible oil, sunflower also produces sunflower cake which can be used for cow feed and its price has also decreased.
“Sunflower cake is a by-product. And it is used for cow feed. Its price is K1200-K1300 a viss. Its production is not sufficient for cow feed. Its price does not vary much. It is now K1200, down from K1300. We sell sunflower seeds too and most are produced for roasted sunflower seed,” he said.
Sunflowers are grown for edible oil extraction and seeds are also consumed. Myanmar has been trying to expand the area of sunflower plantations.
